Westwood Memorial Stables - Arab halters and slips

Here are a few pictures of slips and arab halters I have made. **NEW** items arrive on a regular(ish) basis. :) If you would like a better picture of anything here please ask me as I have hi-res copies of most of the tack items I have made.

**NEW** - Traditional scale Native-style arab presentation set. Stunning as a set, even better as a complete costume. Pictures to come, but the halter and collar can be seen below.

Also coming - The "tweaked" version of my braided Arab halter. I've tightened everything up and neatened it. When I have chance to finish it and do the tassels/throatlatch I'll put a high-res piccy up. You can see a vague sneak peek if you see my model arab Flynt posing before the Welsh hills. ;)

Braided Native-style Arab halters and presentation sets

Native-style halters with an oriental twist, the work and beauty is in the braiding for the body of the halter. These halters are completely crafted by hand.
Traditional scale Native-style Arab halter, braided in yellow with green, pink and orange accent and goldtone fittings. Completed December 2009 Owned by Carra.
Small traditional/Classic scale Native-style presentation set (Halter and collar). Braided in gold with white, red and black accents and gold fittings. Completed March 2010 Personal collection, part of a costume in progress.

Traditional Arab braided halters

I can do the braided halter in any number of colours if you so wish. Fittings can be silver or gold plate. These braided halters are a model horse copy of a real halter I saw in a book on real horse tack. These halters are LSQ and a number of my models have won championships wearing them.

Norhault halter: Braided cotton (black and green), silver beads, buckle and sterling silver chain. Personal collection 2005.

Norhault red: Black and red braided halter with gp fittings. An experimental turn around the chain rings. Personal collection 2005.

Lucie's Halter: Braided cotton (in shades of blue) with gp beads, rings and chain. Owned By Lucie Martin 2005.

Show halter: Braided cotton and metal thread (black and gold) halter, with gp beads, rings, chain and clasp. The lead (though you can't see it here) is leather with gold beads. It doesn't quite fit this particular model, being a little small for him, but you get the gist. :) MHU Live 2005 100% donation. Now owned by ???

Lincon Green: **NEW** Braided green cotton and gold metalic thread make up this almost festive halter. GP beads, buckle, rings, snap clasp and chain. The lead rope was hand braided in the same green/gold thread. Doesn't Huck look handsome in this custom halter? :) December 2005. (For sale)

Traditional Arab show slips

Traditonal size arab show slips are made of rolled leather in black with gold or silver plated fittings. Please state which you would like when ordering. I'm trying to source brown rolled leather for the slips. Alternatively I can do almost any color if you would like a flat leather slip (like the SM slips), just ask. :)

Rolled leather (black), gp buckle, rings and chain (this model is china Aashiq, with is small traditional apparently). Personal collection 2004.

Traditional back rolled leather arab slip, with silver plated fittings, a teeny tongued buckle at the head and a snap clasp with a leather lead. The fastening part of the leather finishes in flat leather just like the real thing. You can just about see this at his poll. I know its not on an arab - but doesn't he look lovely! This example owned by Sam Helton 2005.

Classic Arab show slips

Classic arab slip in rolled black leather, with gp rings, chain, tongued buckles and clip. The head of the slip is flat just like the real thing and fastens with a tiny tongued buckle with a teeny leather keeper.

Stablemate/Chips Arab show slips

Stablemate/Chips scale Arab slips are made of flat skieved leather in black or brown with silver or gold plated fittings. Silver fittings include a sterling silver chain. The slips can be made with different colours of leather, please ask to find what I have in stock.

Stablemate/Chips scale arab slips with silver plated slip buckle, rings and sterling silver chain. The slip buckle at the head makes the slip adjustable for those with dextrous fingers (or good tweezers!). You can just make out the tiny spring clip on the leadchain. The black leather slip on the left is now owned by Sam Helton.

If you like what you see, but don't see what you would like then please feel free to ask me to do what you want. The worst I can do is say no - but I like a challenge and usually say yes. :)

I promised a wire cable show slip and here it is in SM size! The cable is made of high quality silver wire, which was shaped to fit. The ends were covered in leather with a teeny slip buckle at the head, just like the real thing. The lead chain is again made of silver, tiny spring clip and leather lead. The scale and materials was the most challenging aspect of this project and the result was well worth it. :) Personal collection (2005) and Live show loved!

Traditional scale cable show slip! The cable is made of 1mm gauge gold plated wire which has been carefully shaped. The ends of the wire are enclosed in leather and fasten with a little tongued buckle at the poll. This has been finished with a chain show lead, which has a tongued buckle, leather keepers and gold plated chain that ends in a hook. The cable is not as forgiving as something softer so the hook is there so you can carefully remove the chain to help get the cable slip on and off. Even though it's possible, I really wouldn't advise undoing the buckles. :) Personal collection Feb 2006.

Another traditional scale arab cable show slip, this time in 1mm gauge silver plated wire. The ends of the shaped wire are covered in black leather and fastens with a tiny tongued buckle at the poll. It is finished with a silver plated curb chain and black round show lead that also has a tiny tongued buckle. Buckles and snap hook are Rio Rondo parts. I think the cable show slip is simple and elegant, plain yet eye-catching enough to add that final sparkle to your show-stopper. :) February 2005
A Traditional beaded cable slip. 1mm gauge gold wire, ends enclosed in brown leather and fastening with a tongued buckle at the poll. Gold and red glass beads on the cheek pieces and noseband for a little more pizzaz. Goldtone chain and brown leather show lead complete the ensamble. BOPAR Live show donation.

UK Postage and packaging is fixed at £3.50 regardless of how many you order. Halter/tack, background and sales orders can be combined to save on postage, although large or bulky items will have a higher postage cost. Please ask if you are unsure.
Please ask if you are overseas and need international shipping which is calculated at cost.

I accept cheques, POs, cash (sent at your own risk) and PayPal (providing you pay any fees incurred). I may accept trades, don't be afraid to ask. Look at my wish list for inspiration. :)
If you are an international customer I accept PayPal in £GBP (same conditions as as above). I may consider cash ($, etc) or Western Union Cash Money Orders but please ask first.
